“Pistachio slivers” refer to thin, long pieces of pistachio nuts, commonly used for decorating dishes, desserts, and sweets. In fact, the pistachio kernels are cut into thin, narrow strips to form these slivers.
Uses of Pistachio Slivers:
Decorating sweets such as baklava, qottab, rice cookies (naan berenji), and halva
Used as a garnish on rice or festive pilafs like zereshk polo (barberry rice) or morassa polo (jeweled rice)
Added to desserts like traditional ice cream, ferni (milk pudding), shole zard (saffron rice pudding), and more
Note:
Pistachio slivers should be fresh and green to ensure good flavor and an attractive appearance. Sometimes, to make them shinier, they are soaked in water with sugar or rosewater.
